Dr. Xavier-Fructuos Ruiz Sanchez

LECTURE TITLE: KEYS FOR A SUCCESSFUL OUTCOME  AFTER ENDODONTIC FAILURE

Primary root canal treatment has high success rates widely reported in the literature. Nevertheless, endodontic failure can occur. Non-surgical retreatment, apical microsurgery, intentional replantation and tooth extraction are some of the treatment options to manage such teeth.

The aim of this lecture is to present several scenarios the clinician can face after root canal treatment failure (missing canals, anatomical variations, big periapical lesions, instrument fractures, etc.) and the different available approaches focused on non-surgical retreatment to guarantee a long-term success.

Dr. Xavier-Fructuós Ruiz earned his degree in Dentistry from the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC), Barcelona, Spain, followed by the European Master in Endodontics (3-year full-time program) and a Master’s Degree in Dental Research at the same university. He has since focused on endodontics and dental research, including a period as a visiting doctoral researcher at ACTA in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and is currently pursuing his PhD.

He is currently an Associate Professor at UIC, contributing to education and research in endodontics while maintaining a private endodontic practice in Barcelona.

Active in the professional community, Dr. Ruiz is a member of the Spanish Association of Endodontics (AEDE), a specialist member of the European Society of Endodontology (ESE), and an international member of the American Association of Endodontists (AAE). He also serves as a Key Opinion Leader for Dentsply Sirona.

Dr. Ruiz is an award-winning clinician and researcher, recognized for his contributions with honors including the Best Clinical Case Presentation (ESE, 2017), Best Scientific Article (SEOC, 2018), the Journal of Endodontics Publication Award (2019), and an Honorable Mention from the AAE (2021).

He is also an international speaker and educator, presenting at conferences worldwide and sharing advances in endodontics, minimally invasive techniques, and evidence-based clinical workflows.
